[THEME] Android 2 QVGA
on: January 15, 2010, 01:36

I have decided to split in two projects:

This one called Android 2 will be as similar as I can to the new Android interface
(the other one, I was creating before, is in other thread called “Cleanandroid”)

Done:
-achive wallpapers
-first icons
To do:
-need more icons
-resize all to VGA and WVGA

It is looking good so far. Are you using photoshop?

I have found that downsampling using the “Bicubic Sharper” is best for when making QVGA icons.

But the icons look very clean. Are you planning on making a WVGA / VGA theme?

I can give you an ftp username to upload your theme and I will host it for free :)

I founded the icons, so my job is not very hard…

What I have done:
-I have resized all icons to 40×40 (original were 48×48)
-Making a default icon background similar to the others
-Find and resize DROID wallpapers

I’m going to try that Bicubic you say (yes I’m using photoshop)
I will try doing higher resolution themes but the original icons where 48px so… I will have to made them myself (ouch! 80px is too much!)
For anyone reading this, please be patient…

Looks GREAT. When do you think you will have it up and running and ready to download?

One suggestion I have for the custom icons, is that you might add a little bit of a soft shadow to them. You can do that with alpha transparency.

And resizing the icons to 80×80 from 48×48 shouldn’t look too bad. Try it out and test it before you do all the work yourself. I did that with the Default Hero theme that TouchONe ships with. If you look at the screen shots in the gallery, you will see the icons…. those were streched to 80×80 from 48×48

I have been testing but I don’t know how to use that alpha transparency with photoshop. I understand how it works, but not really how to use it. Maybe can you help me?

About the icons… I have redone 55 new icons in 80px so… =D no problem!!

Here is a quick tutorial to explain it.
http://www.axialis.com/tutorials/tutorial-misc001.html

Also, if you just create a new image in photoshop when you go to file->new, make sure that the backgorund contents dropdown says “Transparent” instead of “White” or “Background” color.

YOu can also trim up an image and make areas transparent by flattening the image and selecting pixels and pressing delete.
